Bringing history to life?

by | Jun 29, 2024 | International Youth Exchanges, Internationaler Austausch, Reports

Deadline for registration extended until the end of July!

How can young people who are too young to have lived through them learn about recent historical events in Europe? The project has set itself the task of pooling experiences of working with contemporary witnesses and material objects and jointly discussing and developing new, innovative approaches – with the aim of making history concrete and tangible for young people. Working with contemporary witnesses has the potential to develop a less abstract understanding and a feeling for the past and to convey its relevance for the present. What are the advantages, but also the problems and limitations of working with contemporary witnesses? What to do if there are no more eyewitnesses? What options are there for working with contemporary witnesses and historical artefacts? How can historical artefacts become active and interactive communication tools with and for young people? Does it make sense to expect “authenticity” and “immediacy of history” when dealing with historical material objects? Together with our cooperation partners, we are starting the seminar cycle, which is aimed at multipliers, with an initial project meeting in Dachau at the Max Mannheimer Haus. We are looking for interested multipliers…
