Around half of these are young people. There are neither educational programmes nor overnight accommodation for young people.  <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"date\">\n<h4>Around 1980<\/h4>\n<p>The idea of an &#8220;International Youth Meeting Centre Dachau&#8221; modelled on the International Youth Meeting Centre Auschwitz\/O\u015bwi\u0119cim is therefore born.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"date\">\n<h4>1981<\/h4>\n<p>An initiative group &#8220;International Youth Meeting Centre Dachau&#8221; is formed, which three years later develops into the &#8220;F\u00f6rderverein Internationale Jugendbegegnungsst\u00e4tte Dachau e.V.&#8221;. The aim of the association is to establish a permanent educational centre on site. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"date\">\n<h4>Since 1983<\/h4>\n<p>various youth work organisations organise the &#8220;International Youth Encounter&#8221; in the form of a camp in Dachau.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"date\">\n<h4>1983\/86<\/h4>\n<p>the F\u00f6rderverein and the Bayerischer Jugendring develop ideas and concepts for an international youth meeting centre in Dachau. This leads to lively discussions and debates about these proposals in Dachau. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"date\">\n<h4>1987<\/h4>\n<p>the Dachau town council rejects such a building on the grounds that dealing with Nazi history would damage the town&#8217;s reputation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"date\">\n<h4>1987<\/h4>\n<p>the Bavarian Ministry of Culture submitted a compromise proposal to the Bavarian State Parliament that was intended to fulfil the interests of both sides. A &#8220;Dachau Youth Hostel&#8221; was to be created, consisting of a youth hostel and an educational centre. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"date\">\n<h4>1989<\/h4>\n<p>The Bavarian State Parliament decides to build a youth guest house on the basis of the concept presented by the Ministry of Culture in 1987.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"date\">\n<h4>1991<\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mmsz-dachau.de\/en\/study-center\/stiftung-jugendgaestehaus-dachau\/\">The Dachau Youth Guesthouse Foundation<\/a> is established by the Free State of Bavaria, the town of Dachau and the district of Dachau.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"date\">\n<h4>1996<\/h4>\n<p>Laying of the foundation stone<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"date\">\n<h4>1998<\/h4>\n<p>Offizielle Er\u00f6ffnung des Jugendg\u00e4stehauses am 4. It sees itself as a place of learning and remembrance and supports numerous local contemporary history projects.
